Hello Spartan Families!
It's Annie Olson-Reiners, Keewatin Elementary principal contacting you on Monday, September 9, 2019.
We've had a terrific start to our school year, and I want to share a few announcements with families.
1.) The breakfast and lunch system is in the process of processing free and reduced price lunch forms. It takes us several weeks to process the applications. Please don't be alarmed about negative balances at this point in the year. I will make sure to communicate with all applications have been processed (early October) so that families will have clarity about their status of free and reduced lunch. If you have not yet filled out the free and reduced lunch application, please request a form from your school's main office. Submitting an application, even when you know don't qualify, helps us collect needed documentation for our schools to qualify for federal funding for all our students - AND, your kids automatically receive free breakfast when you submit an application.
2.) Spartan Fun Club starts at the elementary school today- Spartan Fun Club and Learning Academy combined provide enrichment and after school care for students kindergarten through 6th grade until 5:30pm Monday-Thursdays at Keewatin Elementary. If you need forms, please contact Ms. Denise Clusiau at extension 51161.
3.) Both the high school and the elementary school have the opportunity to welcome families to the Nashwauk high school this Wednesday, September 11, from 5-6pm to learn about Restorative Practices and how they work in our schools. Please come.
4.) Our first Children First free community education event is this coming Friday, Sept. 13 starting at 2:20pm at the high school- The Range Astronomy Club will talk about The Skies Above Us - and then at dusk, there will be a telescope viewing set up at the community gardens in Nashwauk.
5. The Spartan Booster Club has organized a Spartan Pride 5K Fun Run on Saturday September 28 at 8:30am. For more information you can find fliers at the schools, or check out the NK Spartan Booster Club Facebook page.
Thanks again for choosing Nashwauk-Keewatin Public Schools. Go Spartans!

“Restorative Practices” is a framework for a broad range of restorative approaches, like circles, that proactively build a school community based on cooperation, mutual understanding, trust and respect. This practice also approaches challenging situations and conflicts by creating opportunities for those who have been harmed to convey the impact of the harm to those responsible, and for those responsible to acknowledge the impact and take accountability to make things right.
Have you moved? New phone number? Please let us know so we can update our information system. Thank you! Call 218-885-1280 ext. 51102 for NKHS, and ext 51151 for elementary.
