Mrs. Furey and Mrs. Anderson took 5th grade on the 5-day STARBASE field trip at the end of April. The STARBASE program strengthens skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while promoting problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world application. Students used CAD, learned coding, engineered rocket landings, researched various STEM careers, and more! The lessons were all aligned with the Minnesota state standards in math, science, and English. Thank you to our parent chaperones, Tim Hegstrom, Ashley Marinaro, Amy Forness, and Jason Forness. Also, thank you to our bus drivers/chaperones, Nicole Houle, Camelia Paszak, and April Matson. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UKXryq76GGpwa8sjaX1joBDcEDVc5NTE/view?usp=sharing

Students in the Technical Writing class shared ideas for educational enhancements to school board members recently. Their ideas included both indoor and outdoor projects.

A big shout out to our school board members for giving their time to listen to student voices. We appreciate how invested they are in our district's students!

As part of our Sports and Entertainment Marketing class we spent part of March focusing on different activities around "March Madness". We created a large NCAA March Madness Bracket and students made Pennants as teams advanced throughout the tournament. One of our projects was to choose a player who was playing in the tournament and create a Wheaties Box with them on the cover. Students learned about the marketing concepts behind the Wheaties Box and how special it is for athletes to be featured on the box. Students also learned about how brands use events such as "March Madness" to have special promotions in an attempt to increase profits.

Great things happen when educators keep learning!

This week, our teachers are at the Minnesota Conference for Teachers of Mathematics to sharpen their skills, discover innovative strategies, and bring fresh ideas back to the classroom. Every new insight gained means more engaging lessons, stronger problem-solving skills, and greater opportunities for our students to succeed.

When teachers grow, students thrive. We can’t wait to see the impact of this learning in action!

Ken Strukel, math instructor from Minnesota North, Hibbing , visited Mrs. Riipinen's Intro to Coding class to see what her students have been learning. As a former computer science instructor, he was impressed with the skills the students have learned. We then visited Mrs. Furey's engineering class to help them debug their robot programs. Thank you Ken for sharing your knowledge.

First grade had the best Earth Day! 🌎 We decorated pots, filled them with soil, planted seeds, and gave them a good watering. Now we get to watch them grow. We even soaked up some sunshine while celebrating our beautiful Earth. 🌱☀️

Miss Patia’s kindergarten class loves the Earth! 🌎❤️ We have been working hard learning about plants through different activities and are excited to watch our own plants grow throughout the rest of the year. We’ve also been exploring ways to take care of our planet, including learning about helpful bugs and the important roles they play. A special highlight in our classroom is our new class pets-five caterpillars! We’re thrilled to have a front row seat as we watch them grow and transform over the next few weeks. We wrapped up our Earth Day learning with a fun treat: delicious “dirt cups”!
