Miss Russell’s & Mrs. Abate’s 1st graders finished reading Charlotte’s Web, and celebrated with a hands-on STEM adventure! 🕸️📚 As part of the “Spider Balloonists” STEM Challenge, students recreated the moment Charlotte’s babies float away by designing their very own spider “balloons.” Then came the big test - launching them off the balcony to see how they traveled! So much creativity, problem-solving, and excitement packed into one unforgettable project. Yay, first grade! 🕷️

Students in Mr. Melby's elementary music classes recently learned a game called "The Old House Key." During this game, a student leaves the room while the rest of the class hides a key somewhere in the classroom. When the class has hidden the key, the student is brought back into the room to search for it. As the student searches for the key, the rest of the class sings this fun little song: "Something's missing, my old house key. Can't unlock the door, oh woah is me! Searched everywhere that it could be.. I guess I'm climbing through the window with a ha-ha-hee!!" As the student gets closer to the location of the key, the class sings louder to help the student know that they are getting close, and as the students gets farther away, the class sings quieter to indicate that they are getting farther away. This game teaches the musical skill of singing loud and soft, and also teaches the life skills of paying attention and working together as a team to help each other out! Have you ever been locked out of your own house before? Did you have to climb through the window?

Science 7 has been working hard creating infographics of the relationship of mitosis to the overall cell cycle. They worked on communicating using visual aids. Great job!

Each group had to show all phases of mitosis, tell what is happening in each, and visually relate mitosis to the cell cycle.

Students in Mrs. Gregorich's Zoology class have been modeling the water vascular system in the phylum Echinodermata...specifically in class Asteroidea...SEA STARS!
These models will now be used as lab stations when assessing knowledge of Asteroidea anatomy.

Students in Mrs. Johnson's 4th grade math classes worked in groups to connect various vocabulary terms they have learned this year. Groups did a "city tour" where they visited each station and the members of that destination explained why they connected certain terms. This activity created positive math talk throughout the classroom and was fantastic to listen to!

Students in the Media Literacy class are learning about camera shots used in movies and how they help tell a story. Click this link to see our lead actor Ben demonstrating what a "push in" shot looks like. Movies use it to draw the audience closer to a character who has intense or conflicting emotions. It can have the effect of getting pulled into the thoughts of the character.

Our third graders have been diving into the exciting world of the Iditarod! 🐾As part of the fun, they took on a reading challenge—matching the miles their musher travels with minutes spent reading (1 mile = 1 minute). 📚 They had an amazing time tracking progress, cheering on their mushers, and building their reading stamina along the way. Way to go, readers! 🎉

Mr. Melby's elementary music classes have been working on learning all of the words and melody to our school song this spring. Today, all of the words to the song on the board were erased when Miss Danielle's Kindergarten class arrived for music. Someone took them and hid them all around the school! The class went on a scavenger hunt to find where all of the words went. Luckily, we found them all and were able to practice the school song once again!
